Metalsmithing: Bring the Heat

Level 2

With basic skills behind us and an ability to create metal jewelry, we move on to joining metals with heat and cold connections with rivets. Students will explore, practice, and develop a love for joining metals with solder and heat. In level 1 the torch was introduced to teach the student how to use heat to soften the metal for forming. In level 2 we expand our skills to joining metals together to create a form and design. How to purchase materials will be part of the lessons of the class and students will purchase their own materials as part of the learning process. The projects in this class are wire bangle, chain bracelet, spinner ring, earrings, pendant with or without prong set stone. The student will be working with wire and sheet metal, copper or silver, patina or not to patina. The projects are chosen to help develop the skills being taught.
